West Shore Rec's Mission: West Shore Recreation Commission, based on an agreement of inter-governmental cooperation, utilizes a combination of public and private resources to promote and provide organized recreational and leisure-time opportunities for all residents of the West Shore School District

Mailing List for Summer and Fall Issues - Are you on the list?

  • Every residence in the West Shore Rec service area will be sent the Winter-Spring issue.
  • The Summer and Fall issues of the recreation guide will be mailed to the homes of persons who have enrolled in an activity within the last three years and to residents who request to be on the mailing list.
  • You may contact the recreation office to confirm or add your name to the list by calling 920-9515 (press 1) or using the online registration form.
  • Persons residing in non-participating municipalities may request a one-year subscription for a fee $2, which will be refunded upon enrollment in an activity during that year.
  • As always, the entire brochure is available online at www.westshorerec.org.

The Board of Representatives
West Shore Recreation Commission is governed by a policy-making board.  Each township, borough and school district appoints one representative and one alternate to serve on the board.

The board meets the second Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. on the following dates for the year 2008:
        February 12 (postponed by weather to February 19)

Other Information:

  • Please Register Early! If a class does not have a sufficient number of participants registered one day prior to the beginning of class, it will be canceled. [Participating communities:  the Townships of Fairview, Lower Allen and Newberry;  the Boroughs of Goldsboro, Lemoyne, Lewisberry, and New Cumberland]
  • Refunds - West Shore Rec will gladly issue a refund for any multi-session program for any reason as long as you contact the office prior to the second class, unless stated otherwise. After the second class, no refund will be given. A five dollar administrative fee will be deducted from the refund. Refunds for one-day activities are not possible after the event has taken place.
    Call 920-9515 during office hours to request a refund. E-mail requests will not be accepted.
  • Cancellations - West Shore Rec reserves the right to cancel any program due to insufficient registration. A full refund will be given. (Online convenience fees will be refunded as a credit on account for future enrollments). Cancellations for trip must be made at least two weeks (14 days) before the trip to receive a refund unless stated otherwise.
    Inclement weather may prompt the rec office to cancel a program. If possible the session will be made up at another date. If in doubt call the office after 4:00 pm and select option 5.
  • Code of Conduct - Participants involved in West Shore Recreation Commission are subject to a Code of Conduct.
  • Credit on Account - Credit placed on your account is good for one year from the date of issue.
  • Confirmations - Once you sign up it is your responsibility to attend the activity. A confirmation will be e-mailed to you if an e-mail address is provided. Otherwise, no confirmations will be mailed unless you wish to provide a self-addressed, stamped envelope. You may view your past, present and future activities online by creating an account.
  • Program Information - All program dates are subject to change due to circumstances beyond our control. Participants must provide their own medical insurance.
  • Make-Up Dates - West Shore Rec makes every attempt to reschedule classes canceled due to inclement weather and other circumstances outside of its control. The make-up date is usually rescheduled  just after the original ending date. No refunds will be given for unattended make-up classes.
  • Information on Age - To be eligible for a program, a participant must be the proper age by the start or by the end of the program. All age requirements are set to benefit the participant and make instruction more consistent for the program leader. In some instances, the requirements have been set for the participant's safety.
  • The discounted resident price listed in the brochure is for residents of participating communities (all townships and boroughs in the West Shore School District with the exclusion of Wormleysburg Borough). The first price is for all others.
  • Any person with a disability needing special accommodations to participate should contact the rec office two weeks prior to the activity.
  • Returned Checks -  Any check returned for insufficient funds will be assessed and additional amount of $20 for each check.
  • E-mail Addresses - West Shore Rec treats e-mail addresses as confidential information and does not share them. E-mail addresses will only be used to contact you about an activity in which you are enrolled or to provide periodic updates with new West Shore Rec information.
  • Online Registration is available for most activities.
    Please note:
    - There is a convenience fee to register online, the minimum being $2.
    - Non-residents must wait until the first day of non-resident registration to register online or 12 noon the day prior to the first day of class if the activity begins before that day.
    - A confirmation of your registration will be e-mailed to you.
    - Should an activity be canceled due to low enrollment, West Shore Rec will refund the cost of the activity. Online convenience fees will be refunded as a credit on account for future enrollments.

Applications are now being accepted for part-time employment to include lifeguards, water safety instructors, pre-school and youth program instructors/supervisors, and leisure education instructors.  Click here for the job opportunities.

Memorial Fund
A special fund has been established for residents to honor friends and loved ones and help improve some aspect of the community. Recently, West Shore Rec accepted donations to purchase and install an AED (automated external defibrillator) at West Shore Natatorium. The AED is now available for cardiac emergencies that may occur during school or community activities.
If you wish to honor someone or contribute toward a worthy community project, your tax-deductible contribution (as allowed by law) may be sent to:
