Feasibility
Study
|
Thanks to the cooperation of municipal
officials and a grant from the York County Commissioners, the Rec Commission
coordinated a feasibility study (October 2007-January 2008) to investigate the need, suitability and
viability for the construction of one or more skateparks within the
communities it serves in the West Shore School District. The Rec Commission
has contracted with
Anthony Bracali,
AIA, LEED AP, of Friday Architects/Planners, Inc. of Philadelphia to lead the
project.
A portion of the study
included a Community Outreach Meeting
to gather input on desires, special needs, and concerns and to provide
information on how skateboarding can fit seamlessly in the community.
If you are interested in serving on a Focus Group on skateboarding in the
West Shore School District area, send your request to
wsrec@wsrec.org.
Please include your name, address, home telephone and
e-mail address.

| The Survey! |
 |
| Part of the study
included collecting public opinion from area residents. Thank you to those
who took time to participate in the online survey. Results were
presented at the Community Outreach Meeting on Thursday, November 29th and
are included in the final report. |
Community Outreach Meetings -
"Understanding Skateboarding"
Thank you to each individual who attended the first community meeting on October
30th.
Approximately 55 persons attended to the first community meeting where
Friday Architects/Planners provided an overview of skateboarding history and how
attractive, public landscapes can accommodate multiple recreation activities,
including skating.
A copy of Friday's slide
presentation is available to view in Adobe Reader.
Thank you, Fairview Township and Fairview Fire Station #1, for hosting this
meeting.
The follow-up community outreach meeting was held Thursday, November 29th at
7 pm at
Fairview Fire Station 68-1 where the consultants shared preliminary findings
based on the online survey and site visitation. Approximately 44 persons
attended.

Commission staff host a discussion of the preliminary study findings with municipal
leaders (elected officials, staff, WSRC board members, and township park & rec
board members).
Final Report
The West Shore Recreation
Commission board of representatives accepted the final report at its regular meeting on Tuesday,
February 19. In addition to the presentation to the board members (one
representative from each township, borough and school district in the West Shore
Rec Commission service area), the report was distributed to each township,
borough and school district. View a copy of the
final report
(abridged for downloading) in Adobe Reader.
